Gentleness and Why the World Needs it
Today I talked about gentleness, the fruit of the spirit. What initially was going to be a message about being gentle on yourself and others, turned into something much deeper. I hope this message helps you understand what gentleness is about and why we each need it in our lives to spread a little to the dark world we live in today.

“With anything in life, we can’t race through pretending the pain didn’t happen – or we’ll never deal with it, and we have to deal with it to GROW through it.” – MTS
Here are a few things I talked about:
1) Gentleness is a fruit of the Spirit that we receive when we accept Christ into our lives. Galatians 5:22-23 NLT tells us, “But the Holy spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. There is no law against these things.”
2) Jesus was gentle. Matthew 11:29 tells us, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls.”
3) Matthew 5:5 tells us in the Beatitudes, “God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.”
It’s really about letting of of pride (we we all struggle with) humbling ourselves under the mighty hand of God so he can carry our his will in our lives in his strength.
I mentioned, how pride and ego can keep us from this. Proverbs 16:18, “Pride goes before destruction and haughtiness before a fall.”
Romans 12:2 reminds us that God’s will for our lives is good, and pleasing and perfect!
Here are the things the Bible instructs us to do:
1) …”Clothe ourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12
2) “Walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which we have been called with all humility and gentleness.” Ephesians 4:1-2
3) “Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and – gentleness.” – 1 Timothy 6:11
4) “Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.” Philippians 4:5
5) Read 2 Timothy 2:24-26 for instructions on how to deal with others.
And one more thing…for those of you that like some music. I saw Jesus Culture this past weekend in Indianapolis at a Joyce Meyer conference and this song has been sticking with me, so maybe it will stick with you. (Btw, Kim Walker Smith has an AMAZING voice!)
Here’s the lyrics to Love Has a Name in case you want to read them:
There’s a space in every beating heart
There’s a longing that reaches past the stars
There’s an answer to every question mark
There’s a name
There’s a hope flowing through these veins
There’s a voice that echoes through the pain
There’s an ember ready for the flame
There’s a name
We will fix our eyes on the One who overcame
We will stand in awe of the One who breaks the chains
Love has a name
Love has a name
Jesus
Love has a name
Love has a name
Jesus
There’s a joy that triumphs over fear
There’s a laughter that wipes away all tears
There’s a presence that changes atmospheres
There’s a name
We will fix our eyes on the One who overcame
We will stand in awe of the One who breaks the chains
Love has a name
Love has a name
Jesus
Love has a name
Love has a name
Jesus…
